AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATORSEach day, more that 150 million Americans go to work, where
they spend more than half of their waking hours. Every year, more
than 250,000 sudden cardiac arrests (SCA) occur outside the hospital
setting. Therefore, it can be concluded that a significant
number of SCAs occur at the workplace. Yet, many companies still
rely on community-based emergency medical services for treatment of
serious injuries and medical emergencies, such as sudden cardiac arrest.
Studies have demonstrated that with early defibrillation, chances for
survival from SCA rise from 5% to 40%. As little as one minute can
make a life-or-death difference. The American Red Cross of Northwest New Jersey has long
recognized that Automated External Defibrillation (AED) is rapidly
becoming the standard of cardiac care. In keeping with the Health
& Safety Services mission to help people prevent and prepare for
emergencies and to teach people to save lives, the Red Cross has been
providing AED training for people in their workplaces throughout Morris
County over the past three years. Recently, changes in legislation have made it easier for the
companies to train their employees and to gain access to defibrillators
for placement within their facilities. Thanks to these changes,
the American Red Cross can offer a full service package of coordinated
training courses and an opportunity to purchase the life-saving machines
for the workplace setting. Recognizing the hectic pace of
today’s workplace, the American Red Cross has become a convenient
venue for “one-stop” shopping where an agency can meet all of their
health & safety needs. The added value for every consumer
beyond exceptional training programs is the comfort and knowledge that
participating in American Red Cross training assures that the proceeds
also bring meaningful resources to the community. These resources
help build a safer environment for people to work and live through the
fulfillment of the American Red Cross mission. For more information in regards to purchasing AEDs for your facility or to schedule training courses, please contact the American Red Cross of Northwest New Jersey Health & Safety Services Department at 973-538-2160. We’ll

Saving Lives Sudden cardiac arrest can
happen anywhere, anytime. When seconds count, a life can be saved with
an AED (automated external defibrillator), a small device that,
when used with CPR, can restore the heart's normal rhythm.
Please, find out if your place of work has an AED and people who
are trained to use it. It can mean the difference between life
and death. For more information on AEDs and training
opportunities, please call (973) 538-2160 |
