Fight the Bite – Malaria No More

Join the American Red Cross “Fight the Bite” campaign against malaria, kicking off World Red Cross Day on May 8^th.  You can be a part of this campaign at your school.  Malaria kills 3000 children every day and claims almost a million lives a year in Africa.  Yet malaria can be prevented and treated.  The American Red Cross has recently become a founding partner of Malaria No More, non-profit network of organizations in the United States and globally, whose mission it to ignite a grassroots movement of individuals and private sector institutions that will help end malaria deaths.  It supports a comprehensive approach to the problem through education, prevention and treatment.  More….

It is wonderful that April showers bring May flowers, but an unfortunate result of all that spring rain can be floods.  Learn the risk of floods and flash floods for your area; know what to expect and how to react.  Know the difference between a flood WATCH and flood WARNING.  Take time to update your home evacuation plan and spend time discussing it with your household members so that everyone knows what to do if flooding prompts and evacuation.  Then, practice evacuating to ensure everything runs smoothly.  http://www.redcross.org/services/prepare/0,1082,0_240_,00.html
