This
past July, five members of our Youth Advisory Board and one chapter high school
liaison attended Wave Week, a leadership camp held in Pennsylvania. The camp was
sponsored by Spark the Wave, a non-profit organization committed to instilling
the ideals, skills, and characteristics of leadership in teen volunteers. |

Paroma Saha,
Purvi Patel,
Brian
Romanowski, Julie Ayers,
Reema Patel and
Zachary
Beecher received scholarships to attend Wave Week on behalf of the
chapter. The team brought back valuable information to enhance our Youth
Council program. They stayed in dorms at Chestnut Hill College and were
constantly occupied with the various activities the camp had to offer – “from
morning to night, there was always something to do because it was very
well-planned,” recalls Council co-Chairman Paroma Saha. Towards the beginning of
camp, students filled out questionnaires to determine their personality traits,
and, based on their answers, they were organized into groups to meet and work
with different people. Over the course of the week, the volunteers attended
numerous classes and leadership seminars and also partook in recreational events
such as a volleyball tournament and a celebratory luau. Wave Week evidently
provided both an educational and an enjoyable experience for everyone involved!

Congratulations Paroma, Purvi, Brian, Julie, Reema and Zachary
for spending a week of summer at such a productive camp, and for completing a
program that has hopefully transformed you into even better leaders than you’ve
always been! The Red Cross commends your efforts and your enthusiasm as
exemplary youth volunteers.
